SELF PUBLISH:
Many authors have talented work that is rejected by publishers because it is not easy to market, not a mainstream topic, not going to become a best-seller, or caters only to a select audience - such as a book directed only to middle-aged campanologists dwelling within Devonshire or a poetry collection solely enjoyable by Californian Buddhists, for example. Although a micro-publisher may pick up your book, it may be more profitable to DIY, if you feel you can handle all the behind the scenes rigmarole that goes along with this procedure. In order to make this option easier for you, WINTERBEAR PUBLISHING offers a FREE advice service. We can help you scramble through the procedure alone if it is your first time, help you recognize possible problems and unexpected costs, and suggest things you may not have thought of. If you just need to know how to do things or where to go, we offer this information freely.
If you find that you need help with just one stage of production - such as designing the cover or proof-reading - we can also offer this single service to you (see below for cost) without obligation to purchase any further services or become published by us.

WINTERBEAR PUBLISHING:
Unlike the big-name publishers who flash their cash and can therefore pick and choose whom to publish based on how well the books will sell, WINTERBEAR prefer to remain less commercially orientated, helping to promote and assist talent rather than have dollar signs in place of human eyes. We plan to remain a small underground business in order to escape passing the income barrier which would force us to obtain an ABN/charge Australian authors GST. Because we choose to remain a small micro-publishing service, we cannot offer to pay an advance to an author. However, there are two options for writers wishing to publish a book with us.
NO-PAY:
This service offers publication to an author in a method where neither the publisher pays the writer, nor the writer pays the publisher. WINTERBEAR will handle the editing/design/registration/marketing in conjunction with you and officially publish your book. Once published, royalties from the first 250 copies sold will be retained by WINTERBEAR to cover the cost of our services. All further royalties will remain YOURS. Your book will be displayed in our store and any royalty payments due will be sent to you annually.

PAY UP FRONT:
This service offers an author a method of paying for each required service at a pre-set price. WINTERBEAR will provide each service, upon payment, and publish your book. Once published, the book will be displayed in our store and all royalties will be forwarded annually to the author, without any further payment to WINTERBEAR.

*PAGE refers either to regular doc double spaced OR single spaced 6x9. Can be paid up front, or in ten pages at a time format.
** For this payment, we will offer you two designs for a front cover. We will then create a back cover to match whichever design YOU think best fits your book - with free spine.
*** An individual ISBN will be issued for inclusion in your title page. It will also be printed on the back cover of your book in EAN barcode format. At the current time, CIP data is not available for books utilizing POD-printers; however, if this service should resume we will include CIP data entry at no additional cost. It is the legal requirement in the country of residence of WINTERBEAR PUBLICATIONS for two copies of all books published to be lodged at our legal deposit libraries. (This is generally also required in other countries, though in some places only one copy may be required.) We will arrange for these copies to be lodged on your behalf. All books of more than 400 pages need to make an additional $10 payment to cover the excess postage involved.
****We will make suggestions as to suitable fonts - YOU choose which to select. We will generate the title pages, align the text, and organize an author bio for the back page if desired.
***** The Winterbear publishing logo will appear on your back cover. It can be printed big or small dependant upon your request.
****** If you wish to use a regular/local printing service for a set amount of hard copy in addition to using the regular WINTERBEAR store for e-book &/or hard copy via POD-printing, we can arrange this for you if using our PAY UP FRONT service. However, all costs involved with the additional printer will be the responsibility of the author, a minimum amount of copies may be required, and WINTERBEAR will act as negotiator between printer and author on this service.
